River Kwai Bridge And Museum Kanchanaburi.

Victory Monument Bangkok

The Bridge on the River Kwai is in Amphoe Muang which is in the Kanchanaburi Province. You can get there by bus from the Southern bus terminal in Bangkok or by mini van from the van terminal at Victory Monument Bangkok.

Van cost around 200 Baht and the bus a little cheaper both take between 2 to 3 hours to get there.

Chitanun guesthouse River Kwai Kanchanaburi The mini van terminates at the bus depot and from here a great way to get down to the river and accommodation is by a waiting rickshaw. These guys pedal their hearts out and the cost 60 Baht. It's a nice ride past the cemetery and on down the main street to the river.

There is plenty of cheap accommodation here starting from around 200 Baht but being close to the river means plenty of mosquito's and insects so it's well worth paying a little extra to have a little more comfort.I choose to stay at CHITANUN GUESTHOUSE on the main street close to most things. This is a really nice place, spotlessly clean cabins with screens at the windows. The gardens here were beautiful with many different plants especially orchids. My air-con cabin was 600 Baht per night and was very comfortable.

River Kwai Bridge There are a few shops on the main street and a few bars most within walking distance.I got the feeling this is a hippy style town and dreadlocks were abundant.

There are a few good restaurants close by serving all different types of food. The meals were good and reasonable.

River Kwai Bridge From here I took a rickshaw to the museum first then on to see the famous Bridge on the River Kwai and finally back to the bus station, about a 3 or 4 mile round trip for 220 Baht, it was a great way to cruise around. The museum by the bridge is very interesting. There is an entrance fee which helps maintain the building of 40 Baht.

It's amazing how many people cross the bridge by foot, I was lucky as the train was passing whilst I was on the bridge.

You cant help getting this cold feeling inside your stomach thinking of all the lives that were lost building it.
